Peter Starr papers, 1807-1871 and 1839-1842.

Letters to Starr, chiefly during his tenure (1839-1842) as treasurer of Middlebury College, concerning college finances, land holdings, and former students who still owe tuition. The earliest letter (1807 Aug. 21) is from Starr to his future wife, Elizabeth Jones. Another letter concerns a donation from Elizabeth (Jones) Starr to the Female Cent Society of the Congregational Church of Middlebury. Includes three letters (1853-1871) to and from Peter Starr, Jr.

Peter Starr was a graduate of Williams College and completed his law studies in Middlebury, Vt., where he was admitted to the bar in 1805. He practiced law in Middlebury until near the end of his life, held numerous civic posts, and served as a state legislator.
